1947 Gibson L-5.
Very Good Overall Condition With A Few Repairs And Modifications, But No Structural Issues.
Original Natural Finish Highlights The Incredible Flamed Maple Used On The Back And The Neck. It Has Wear From Use And A Touch Of Overspray On The Heel Where An Added Strap Button Was Removed And Near The Input Jack Where A Crack Was Professionally Repaired (See Photos).
I Purchased This Guitar From It’s Second Owner. When That Gentleman Bought It From It’s Original Owner Many Years Ago He Was Told It Was Sent Back To Gibson In The Mid ‘50’s To Have The P-90 Pickup Added. There Is No Written Provenance For This, But The Work Is Impeccable And The Pots, Electronics, And Knobs All Are From That Time Period, So I Have No Reason To Doubt What I Was Told.
Without Getting Too Flowery In The Description, The P-90 In This L-5 Sounds Incredible (Like, REALLY Incredible). Big, Fat, And Warm, But With Pointed And Focused Clarity.
Original Kluson Sealfast Tuners, Original Truss Rod Cover, Original Brazilian Rosewood Bridge, Original Tailpiece, And The Original Strap Button Are All Intact.
The Original Pickguard Has A 1/2” Spot Of Deterioration, But It Is Not Gassing And Has Remained The Same Since I Purchased It Over 10 Years Ago. I Prefer To Leave Things Original If I Can And As It Has Not Presented A Problem (Other Than Slight Cosmetic) I’ve Left It Alone- The Buyer May Choose To Install A Replacement.
It Has Been Expertly Refretted With Medium/Jumbo Fretwire And Plays Flawlessly With Very Low Action Measuring 2.5mm Bass Side/2mm Treble Side At The 12th Fret.

Weighs In At 7lbs 1oz.
Beautiful Chunky “C” Shape Neck Profile With The Depth At The 1st Fret Measuring .9” and 1.05” At The 10th.
