c.1960 Marantz 7 Preamplifier And 8 Power Amplifier.
Excellent Overall Condition (See All Photos).
The 7 Comes With The Original Optional Wood Cabinet That Retains Its Original Natural Finish. The Cabinet Has A Few Small Marks, But Is In Excellent Condition And Is Very Clean And Presentable (Top, Bottom, And Sides Are Shown In The Listing Photos).
The 8 Has A Few Small Spots Of Finish Blems, But is Also In Excellent Original Condition And Very Presentable. It Does Not Have A Tube Cage.
These Amps Were Purchased From The Wife Of The Original Owner And Were Remarkably Untouched From Original When We Got Them.
The 7 Is Completely Original With No Modifications Except The Selenium Rectifier Was Replaced To Insure Trouble Free Operation Into The Future. The Original Selenium Rectifier Was Kept And Is Included. The Tubes Are The Original 6 Telefunken 12AX7 Tubes And They Operate Perfectly.
The Volume Pot On The 7 Is Slightly Scratchy But Still Operates Well And The Unit Sounds Incredible With Zero Coloration, Almost Holographic Imaging, And Wonderful Clear Grain-Free Midrange.
Without Trying To Sound Too Flowery, There’s A Reason Why These Amps Are Legendary, With Some Regarding The Tube Marantz 7 As The Best Preamplifier Ever Produced…
The 8 Has Original Electronics Except For A Recap To Ensure It Remains Problem-Free For Many Years. It Works Flawlessly With Clear, Full Signal And Feels Powerful Well Beyond Its Rated 30 Watts Per Channel. The Massive Transformers Are Rock-Solid And The Unit Weighs A Sturdy 56 lbs.
The 8’s Rare Original British Mullard/RCA Black Plate XF2 Double Getter EL-34 Power Tubes Work Perfectly And Test Strong (And Finding An Excellent Quartet Of These If You Can Will Cost Up To $2000 Or More). The 6BH6 Tubes Are U.S. Made Zeniths And The 6CG7’s Are U.S. Zenith And RCA.
As Nice A Marantz Pair As We Have Seen, These Amps Will Probably Still Be Working Well Long After We Are Gone…
Local Pickup Is Preferred But We Will Ship These In Two Separate Boxes.
